On 1st November 2014, we departed from Green Point, Cape Town, on a self-supported cycle expedition through East Africa and back. We are carrying only basic equipment, relying on our wits and skills to see us through.

Our journey takes us along the celebrated Route 62 to Port Elizabeth (Nelson Mandela Bay). We engage the coastline in the Transkei and stick as close as possible to it all the way up to Durban, before heading inland into Lesotho via the legendary Sani Pass. Exiting on the Free State side, we set our sights on Jo'burg. From there we visit Nelspruit, before heading north again to leave our home-country via the Beit Bridge border post. After an arc through southern Zimbabwe, we enter Botswana. Our westward push ends as we reach Caprivi (part of Namibia) & turn east again, as far as Victoria Falls. Then it's onwards & upwards through Zambia to Kitwe, Sven's birthplace. After a shortcut through the DRC we emerge in Africa's Rift Valley, travelling as far north as South Sudan & Ethiopia. Heading back through Kenya we revisit Tanzania, transversing the Serengeti and admiring Kilamanjaro on our way to the coast. Time to take in some island-life before chasing the sun to Malawi and proceeding south along Mozambique's coast, returning to SA via Swaziland.

Along the way we will engage with the people of Africa, sharing ideas and information, in the spirit of Ubuntu. During this social experiment, we look forward to sharing interesting stories of people living in harmony with nature and each other.
